Aussies shine at ITU Multisport World Championships

Team Australia has executed another successful campaign at the recent ITU Multisport World Championships in Fyn, Denmark.

Penny Slater and Justin Godfrey successfully defended their world crowns in the Cross Triathlon event.

Slater, the 22-year-old Canberra University student was a comfortable winner in the Under 23 Cross Triathlon (1km swim:40km bike:10km run), finishing seventh in the Elites overall in a time of 2hrs 35.05 minutes.

While Albury’s father of two Justin Godfrey showed why he has no peers in the world of Cross Paratriathlon with his second title - his third career world championship, conquering the tough Svendborg course (500m swim; 15.2km bike; 5.2km run) in 1hr 29.35 mins.

It follows Slater and Godfrey’s category wins in last year’s Multisport Championships in Penticton and Godfrey’s win in Crackenback three years ago.

Nathan Breen, the boy from Cronulla, the breeding ground of so many Australian triathlon greats finally landed himself an Aquathlon world title in Denmark.

The 22-year-old Mick Delmotte coached Breen, claimed gold and silver in the one race at the 2018 Multisport Aquathlon World Championships, part of the ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Fyn.

Breen claimed gold in the Under 23s and silver overall in the Elites in a rewarding day in the office.

And his 21-year-old training partner Brady Goodyear was fourth home overall in the Elites claiming bronze in the Under 23s to cap a great day for coach Delamotte while Rahal Jegatheva won silver in the junior men’s division.

Australia’s Annabel Luxford has turned back the clock at the Multisport World Championships in Denmark’s home of Hans Christian Andersen with a hard fought bronze medal in the Long Distance event in Fyn.
