National Championship racing returns this weekend, with TreX Sunshine Coast set to host the 2022/23 Australian Cross Triathlon Championships on Saturday 5 November.
The third race on the Australian Championship calendar sees the nation’s best off-road triathletes battling it out in Landsborough in the heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Based on the banks of spectacular Ewen Maddock dam, the course – 1500m swim, 28.5km mountain bike, 10.5km trail run - showcases the very best of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland with its stunning waterways, rainforest trails and fern-filled bushland.
The course includes some of the best fast and flowing single track mountain bike trails, and gritty off-road running trails found anywhere in Australia.
Originally scheduled for Saturday 22nd October, the Australian Cross Triathlon Championships were postponed due to impeding inclement weather.
New elite Aussie champs are expected to be crowned with defending title-holders Tom Fisher and Penny Slater both missing the opportunity to defend the honour. An ankle injury during his preparations sidelined Fisher for the event, and scheduling conflicts due to the postponement of the race means Slater is unable to compete.
The event will also provide the opportunity for athletes to earn a spot on Team Australia for the 2023 World Championships in Ibiza, Spain.
