Triathlon WA has been announced as a finalist in the Professional Event of the Year category for the 2016/17 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards for the Busselton Festival of Triathlon.
The Busselton Festival of Triathlon is WA's premier triathlon event. Incorporating the largest IRONMAN 70.3 in the southern hemisphere, with a growing program of festival events, it is a celebration of the sport of triathlon not to be missed. It has a solid history, world class profile and sell-out status. The event is about bringing people together, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging people of all ages to 'give it a go. It has a huge impact on the community of Busselton and is one of it's longest running and most popularly supported events of the region.
Selected from 70 applications, the nominations showcase best practice an an exciting, diverse range of projects across WA thriing sport and recreation sector.
Department of Sport and Recreation Director General Ron Alexander said once again the strength of the entrants was impressive. “The awards highlight the breadth of the work which goes on in our industry from the events which we can see and participate in through to what happens behind the scenes to make them happen,” Department of Sport and Recreation Director General Ron Alexander said.
“They also highlight the excellent work, innovation and enthusiasm which is going on in the sport and recreation industry at the moment in Western Australia.”
Across nine categories, the finalists are also vying for the overall Minister’s Award for Industry Excellence with prize money of $10,000.
The awards are supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, Western Australia Sports Federation, Parks and Leisure Australia (WA), Outdoors WA, LIWA Aquatics and Fitness Australia.
Winners will be announced at the prestigous Sport & Recreation Industry Awards Presentation Breakfast on 26 July, 2016.
