It looks like a great season, with the return of many of the favourite races plus some new races. There are also changes to the Triathlete of the Year Series (formerly the State Series) and Club Event Series, as well as National Age Group Qualifying races. A brand new event, the Way Out West Triathlon, is the Australian Youth & Junior Championship as well as the Oceania Junior and Mixed Junior Team Championship.
New Events
There are a number of new sanctioned events on the calendar this year, adding more variety and different locations to the calendar this year.
- North Coast Aquathlon - 3 February. North Coast Tri Club will be holding an aquathon on Friday at Sorrento Beach. What a great way to start the weekend with a swim and run.
- Quinns Beach Triathlon - 4 February. Adding another location for the Northern Suburbs, the Quinns Beach Triathlon will be an enticer and sprint distance race.
- Turquoise Coast Triathlon/Duathlon - 25 & 26 February. This event will be run by Steve Doyle and the crew at Sports Performance Management. Located at Jurien Bay, this promises to be an idyllic location to race and a great place to get away for the weekend.
- City of Armadale Way Out West Triathlon - 4 & 5 March. This new race is the Australian Youth & Junior Championships and the Oceania Junior Championships. See below for more detail.
- Bunbury City Classic - Run by the Bunbury Tri Club, this event will have a standard and enticer distance race. Just over a month out from the SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton it should be a good hit out for those planning the longer race.
