As the curtain comes down on the 2018 ITU World Multisports Championships in Penticton, Canada, WA athletes can be very proud of their performances. There are 4 WA athletes coming home with World Championship titles weighing down their bags as well as a number of athletes with other medals adding to the hand luggage.
Felicity Sheedy-Ryan started off the week, taking out the Elite Duathlon World title after a brave and at times scary solo effort on the bike sealed her second Duathlon world crown. Felicity took her first duathlon title 5 years ago.
The very talented Katherine Ryan took the second gold in the Duathlon, winning the 45-49 Age Group in the Standard Duathlon ahead fellow compatriot, Sarah Hunter who came in 5th.
Alec Davison spearheaded the young guns in Canada, taking out the Junior category in the Cross Triathlon. In an amazing close race Alec worked with training partner Adam White on the bike before he chased down the leader 16 seconds ahead to finish 54 seconds in the lead with Adam finishing 4th.
Rahul Jegatheva rounded out the local World Champions, taking out the 19 & Under Aquathlon World Championships and finishing 3rd overall, in an outstanding performance from the youngest in the field.
Special mention must go to the serial silver medallist, Steve Ware, who took silver in the 60-64year age group in the Long Distance Triathlon, Sprint Duathlon and Standard Duathlon.
