Finish Lines...Not Finish Times events announcement

It’s back, for its fifth and final time!

The Triathlon NSW ‘Finish Lines not Finish Times initiative’ funding has been confirmed for 2023/2024.

Since it’s inception in 2019/2020, over 3,000 brand new female participants have been introduced to the sport of triathlon through this program.

New memberships sold, new friendships formed, and lifelong memories created.

From simple beginnings in pilot phase with 11 clubs taking part back in 2019, the concept has grown and expanded to include pre-event training programs, education sessions and skills development, all delivered by the clubs and Triathlon Australia accredited coaches. All designed to reduce barriers and promote inclusive sport experiences for women and girls, thanks to the NSW Office of Sport Her Sport’s Her Sport Her Way Grant Program.

It's been so successful that the program was recently recognised by the Office as Sport at their ‘Showstopper’ event. Only eight stand-out programs from around NSW State Sporting Organizations were profiled at the event. We were thrilled and honoured that ours was as well.

Check out this awesome video they put together from Warringah Triathlon Club's events in 2022/2023 in this little video:

We are thrilled to be able to provide 22 clubs with funding to host women’s only events throughout 2023 and 2024.

Of particular note this season is Triathlon NSW’s newest club, Goulburn Triathlon and Northern Suburbs Triathlon Club, both stepping up to deliver their inaugural programs.

But it’s the spread of clubs across our state, with the North Coast, New England, Hunter, Central Coast, Central West, Southern Tablelands and Metropolitan Sydney regions all hosting FLNFT training sessions and events that is most noteworthy.

Triathlon NSW CEO Adam Wicks highlighted the importance of programs like FLNFT to the growth of the sport, as well as the key role that club members play in their success.

“What makes this a great program is that it’s not Triathlon NSW coming in and telling clubs what will work for their club and their community. Clubs tell us what program they want to deliver to engage females in their local community. And thanks to the NSW Office of Sport, we’re able to provide much needed financial investment back into our clubs to do what they do best. It’s the club volunteers who create, promote and deliver these events in such fun & encouraging environments. The success of the program is due to the volunteer dedication’!

Scone Head Coach and Triathlon NSW Board member, Nicky Western has been on board since the first round of funding, always delivering quality programs for local ladies, resulting in the club being very strong and full of women who are thriving.

Nicky added ‘the FLNFT funding has enabled the Scone Tri Club to offer fantastic programs tailored specifically to attract females, ensuring the club has a supportive and inclusive environment. It was the catalyst for starting the training sessions which are now offered to club members, free of charge and included in their membership, twice a week and year round’

Further information for each of the 21 events (including registration processes) will be released in due course.

Triathlon NSW would like to thank all clubs for their applications along with the Triathlon NSW Board, and the NSW Office of Sport for their continued support.

Congratulations to the 22 clubs who have received funding for FLNFT training sessions and events in 23/24:
