In challenging conditions, the Triathlon ACT Pathway Athletes, accustomed to colder climates, had outstanding results in the recent Billigence Pathway Championship Series round 3 incorporating the TNSW/ACT Super Sprint Championships and Mixed Relay Team Championships held in Orange.
TACT had five representatives compete in the two day event – Zoe Clarke, Shaun Harris, Jack Young, Kami Schmutz and Bonnie Young.
Saturday saw the athletes compete in 3 events, with the final on Sunday morning. The water temperature had plummeted due to unprecedented amounts of rain fall, but the ACT athletes pulled on their wetsuits and took it in their stride to progress through the race weekend.
Zoe Clarke, new to the sport of triathlon as a talent transfer from surf lifesaving is going from strength to strength. Zoe has achieved 2nd place in both rounds of BPCS that she has competed, in the U23 category. A strong swim leads Zoe from the field out of the water, with more experienced athletes chasing her on the bike - Zoe is only very new to cycling, a few more races under her belt and more skill development on the bike will see her as a fierce competitor to watch moving forward.
Zoe placed 2nd in the U23 Female at Orange and second overall female of the day - walking away with a bonus cash prize. Zoe joined Josh Ferris, Matilda Offord and Troy Whittington in the Mixed Relay Team Championships, dominating the competition and combined with her individual performances, gained selection to the TNSW/TACT Palladium Property #1 U223 Mixed Relay Team.
Jack Young and Shaun Harris both made the “A” Final on Sunday – a credit to their dedication and commitment to the program and their training.
Shaun finished 5th Junior Boy in the State Championship and gained valuable points in this double points round of the Billigence Pathway Championship Series. Jack finished 5th in the Junior B category, and has accumulated points in every round. Chasing in Jacks foot steps, sister Bonnie has had a 7th and two 4th positions, accumulating points every round in a very competitive female category. Kami made the B final in Orange and has raced at all of the Billigence Races, gaining valuable race skills and experience.
