Kingscliff provided a stunning backdrop to last weekend’s Queensland Standard Distance Championships. Despite a wet lead up, the day was spectacular.
With one of the largest fields of their March events, QSM’s Kingscliff Triathlon had a race for all abilities – from the kids and Pinky First Timers, to the Standard distance events, over 1200 athletes swam, rode and ran their way to the finish line.
On offer at this event was the Queensland Standard Distance Championship and points for the Nisan State Series. With only one race left in the Nissan State Series, the Moreton Bay Triathlon on April 23rd 2017), the title for age group athletes is close to being decided. It was also the final qualifying race for athletes to gain enough points to represent Australia at the ITU Age Group World Championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands later this year.
The standout of the day would have to be the beautiful Cudgen Creek. Clear and offering tide assistance for swimmers, the sheltered salt water inlet
Taking out line honours today was Brandon Copeland (Tweed Valley Triathletes Club) and Madi Roberts (Surfers Paradise Triathlon Club). Fastest Age Grouper on course today in the Standard Distance was Damien Bulters (30-34, Brisbane Triathlon Club) who finished 5th overall in 01:56:26 on the Standard Distance course. Damien – current Nissan State Series leader, was the fastest Queensland age grouper in Mooloolaba a couple of weeks ago.
