About Triathlon

WHAT IS TRIATHLON?     WHO CAN DO TRIATHLON?

Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It is three times the fun of any other sport, combining swimming, cycling and running in one event. There are also Paratriathlon events for athletes with a physical disability.

There are many variations of a triathlon, which shows how triathlon truly caters to everyone.

For more information, check out The Starting Line

Anyone can enter a triathlon. You just need some basic skills in each leg, a bike and a killer attitude. If you don’t feel comfortable with your swim leg, try a duathlon. If you’re not sure about the ride, give an aquathlon a go. There are plenty of events in Queensland that include novice and enticer distances which are perfect for your first tri.

If you want some tips, check out Your First Triathlon.

ABOUT TRIATHLON CLUBS   TRIATHLON FOR KIDS

You can also join a club for specific training programs and a supportive squad to enjoy the tri lifestyle.

If your kids are keen to try, check out TRYstars. We run an introductory triathlon program at local clubs and schools. The schools program is even funded by Sporting Schools, so it’s FREE. See kids for more info.

WHAT DOES AGE GROUP MEAN?    TRIATHLON PATHWAYS

All triathlon events are divided into age categories, which means you can take part with your friends, family and colleagues regardless of their tri experience. Age groupers make up 90% of all triathletes. If you want to take your triathlon career further, age groupers can even qualify to represent Australia in the Age Group World Championships team. The team brings together our best athletes from 16-75 and compete side by side with the Elite competitors in the green and gold.

If you are proficient at piecing together all three legs and can commit the hours of training required, there are specific pathways developed to help you from your first triathlon to selection at the ITU Elite World Championships of Olympic Games. Visit Junior Development  or Triathlon Australia High Performance pages for more information.
