Inspired by the 2016 Age Group World Championships in Cozumel last week? Perhaps Canada could be your next triathlon vacation. Next year, Team Australia will be headed to Canada for the Penticton 2017 ITU Multisport World Championships Festival over the 18 – 26 August. Penticton will host the Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon and Long Distance Age Group World Championships.

Penticton is the heart of Canadian wine country, with 44 wineries and a developing craft beer scene and also plays host to IRONMAN Canada. Part of Penticton’s appeal as a race destination is the traditional single-loop swim and bike courses, along with the out-and-back run serving up a variety of sights and challenges. Those competing will be exposed to the pristine waters of Lake Okanogan, lush farmlands, bountiful orchards and vineyards, along with arid regions and mountain passes.

Here’s how you can qualify to represent Australia at the Age Group World Championships as part of Team Australia.

The Age Group World Championships are held at varying locations around the World each year. Triathlon Australia can select up to 20 male and 20 female athletes per Age Group category to represent Team Australia at the World Championships.

Earn points towards selection over the season by racing in selection races included in Triathlon Australia’s National Calendar. Your finishing position in the races will determine the number of selection points that you receive, and points are accumulated over the 2016/2017 season. Double points can be earned at National Championship races, automatic qualification for the team is also awarded to athletes who place first at an Australian Age Group Championship.

To be selected on the Australian Age Group World Team you must be a member of Triathlon Australia and apply for the team in the distance you would like to race before March 2017. For your selection points to count, make sure your Triathlon Australia membership is active as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of your selection race.
