The highly anticipated 2022 Club Championships has been announced to take place on October 9th, 2022 at the Queensland Triathlon Series Round 2 – Moreton Bay. This year will be extra special, as the event will mark a decade of triathlon club competition in Queensland.

A special addition to the 10th anniversary of the Club Championships will be the ‘classic’ distance over a 2km swim, 60km cycle and 15km run. In years past, Club Championships has hosted a standard distance and so the dynamic of the longer format may see some interesting battles between clubs. There will also be valuable club championship points on offer for those competing in the sprint, enticer, and kid’s events along with team categories.

Clubs from all over Queensland are expected to descend on Pelican Park on October 9th as they unite to fight for the top spot on the podium.

Each club member who races will count in the friendly battle for club pride. In addition to the battle for club pride, there is the lure of over $9,000 in cash prizes for clubs in the following categories:

2022 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZE POOL

Large Club Champions - $3,750 total prize pool
1st Place - $1,800

Mathew Sundstrom, Head of QLD State Services – Triathlon Australia said ‘this year's Club Championships is a special event for all clubs in Queensland as we come together to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Clubs are a valuable part of the triathlon community as they connect likeminded people who enjoy the social aspect of triathlon and value the opportunity of training as a group under the guidance of a coach.

While triathlon is often seen as an individual sport, the reality is that most triathletes are part of a triathlon club which helps them to improve faster and be supported by their fellow club members in their training and racing.

This year’s Club Championships are all about coming together to celebrate and acknowledge triathlon clubs from all across the great state of Queensland. I am looking forward watching the friendly battle for club pride and club members coming together to support each other on race day.
