Greater Springfield Duathlon to host Queensland Championship!

Greater Springfield Duathlon to host Queensland Championship!

The now well-known Greater Springfield Duathlon is set to return to the ever growing Springfield Central for another year on Sunday, 31 July 2016.

A brisk wintery morning in Springfield will welcome hundreds of keen triathletes as they come to test their skills and race for their chance at glory in the Queensland Championship Duathlon, held at Robelle Domain.

The Greater Springfield Duathlon acts once again as a Triathlon Australia Age Group ITU World Championship Qualifying Race for the World Multisport Triathlon Festival to be held in Canada in 2017 as well as being one of the first races in the season for triathletes to get back into racing after the off season.

“We love bringing this event out to the Ipswich region, the roads around Robelle Domain set an exciting bike course which is great for spectator viewing and the local community has always been very helpful and a pleasure to work with,” said Tim Harradine, Triathlon Queensland Executive Director.

Duathlon is a variant of triathlon with a run, cycle, run format. It is one of the first races on the 2016-17 South East Queensland calendar and is a fantastic first hit out for triathletes as July is still too cold to jump in the water for some, but the perfect time to get back into running and dust off the bike.  The Greater Springfield Duathlon has grown each year and does not only attract triathletes but many participants of all abilities and ages.

The Greater Springfield Duathlon is the perfect opportunity for young budding athletes to get in and give it a go, with multiple distances and a course for every age and ability, with athletes from seven to 84 years taking on the course. There are also options for teams or individuals across a variety of distances.

“The support from the local community has been instrumental in the creation of this event and we are very thankful to our partners, Springfield Land Corporation and the Ipswich City Council, for their commitment to triathlon in the area” said Rachael Gibson, Triathlon Queensland Events and Sponsorship Officer.

“Triathlon is a sport that anyone can compete, participate, spectate or officiate in. It is a sport where you compete against your own goal and your own time, meaning you set the standard you wish to go at. Both the Springfield Land Corporation and the Ipswich City Council have the aim of being one of the healthiest, active cities in the world and we believe the Greater Springfield Duathlon is the perfect fit, as anyone can get involved” said Gibson.

Registrations close on Sunday 24 July! Get your friends together for a great morning out at Springfield’s Robelle Domain. For more information about the event visit www.springfieldduathlon.com.au
