82 year old Gold Coast athlete, Jolyon Ward, will return from Penticton, Canada, with his ITU Age Group Duathlon World Championship Title back in his grasp. This is the second Duathlon World Championship title earned by Ward, having taken home the title in 2015 in Adelaide (and this year, his time was 3 minutes faster than in 2015).
Ward was the oldest competitor on the Australian team in Penticton this year, says he "feels 40" and credits that to keeping active every day.
Also bringing home an ITU Age Group Aquathlon World Championship title was Open Water Swimming legend Penny Palfrey - going one better than last year's 2nd place finish.
Other Queenslanders on the podium in Penticton were:
Sprint Duathlon | Ross Salmon | 75-79 | 2nd place |
Aquathlon | Chris Palfrey | 60-64 | 3rd place |
Aquathlon | Rowland Cook | 65-69 | 2nd place |
Aquabike | Brandi Alberts | 20-24 | 2nd place |
Aquabike | Jordan Gover | 45-49 | 3rd place |
Aquabike | Peter Clatowrthy | 60-64 | 3rd place |
Long Distance | Rebecca Ungermann | 25-29 | 3rd place |
Long Distance | Rowland Cook | 65-69 | 3rd place |
Congratulations to all athletes who competed in Penticton!
