This weekend Ironman will host their 6th race in Cairns.  This event is known for the area’s stunning scenery and course which showcases Tropical North Queensland.  It is also known for the competitive field of Pro athletes, each chasing that prestigious title of Ironman Asia-Pacific Champion. This year there will be 7 Queenslanders lining up on the Pro start line.  

David Dellow will be returning to Cairns after placing second to Tim Van Berkel by only four minutes in 2016.  Dellow will no doubt be looking to be on top of the podium - repeating his winning Ironman Australia performance in May this year - but will go head to head with Van Berkel again in Cairns.  Fellow Queenslanders include: Joshua Amberger, Giles Clayton, Casey Munro, Samuel Murphy and Ryan Palazzi.  Amberger, who raced Ironman South Africa in April, will also be eager to join the battle for the podium.  Munro, Murphy and Palazzi are also returning to Cairns and will be eager to improve their rankings.  In 2016 Palazzi placed 15th with Murphy two spots behind.  Munro failed to finish the gruelling race, and will be ready to claim a spot among the other finishers.   

Sarah Crowley, the only Queenslander on the women's Pro start line, will return to Cairns, and is set to race American Linsey Corbin, who finished second in 2016.  Finishing third in 2016, Crowley will be not only be eager to beat Corbin, but will also have her eyes set on the first-place spot on the podium. 

For theage group competitors, there will be 75 qualifying slots for the 2017 IRONMAN World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
