In August and September this year, Queensland age group athletes will take to the starting line at the ITU World Championships.
In August the inaugural ITU Multisport World Championships will be held in Penticton, Canada, and in September, Age Group athletes head to Rotterdam in The Netherlands for the ITU Sprint and Standard World Championships.
First up in August, the Multisport festival includes the duathlon, aquathlon, cross triathlon, long distance events, and the new aquabike format will have it's World Championship debut.
Current Duathlon World Champion & B Mee Multisport Club member, Brandi Alberts (20-24) will be looking to defend her title - she is one of only two Australians returning to defend their 2016 World Championship title.
Joining Alberts on the Australian Team is Anastasia Heikkila (Caloundra Triathlon Club) - the youngest member of the Australian team, and Jolyn Ward (Surfers Paradise Triathlon Club), the oldest member of the Australian team.
The team will be competing between August 6th & 14th 2017.
The ITU Sprint and Standard Distance World Championships will be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in September in conjunction with the grand final of the World Triathlon Series for our Elite triathletes. For age groupers, the Sprint event will be draft legal and the Standard, non-drafting. With both events scheduled on one day, athletes are only able to race one distance at these championships.
Held the day after the World Triathlon Series' Grand Final, the age group athletes will start and finish on the same stretch of course as the professionals.
Next year's ITU Multisport World Championship will be held in Fyn, Denmark (July 6-14 2018). The ITU Sprint and Standard Distance World Championship will be on Queensland's Gold Coast next September.
