Townsville Tri Fest turned on the heat

Townsville turned on the perfect weekend the Intersport Townsville Triathlon Festival.    In its 15th year, the festival event included 11 different opportunities to be involved - from the Elite Mile, ocean swim and corporate triathlon, through to the standard and sprint distance triathlon events.

Saturday's unseasonably warm weather tested those athletes who had travelled in for the event, with afternoon temperatures hitting 32C.  The standard distance race was the first qualifying event for those athletes hoping to make the Australian team for the Age Group ITU World Championship event on the Gold Coast next season.

Taking the win in the standard distance race was Brisbane's Max Neumann and Briarna Silk - each taking home a $2000 prize purse.  The sprint distance event, with its prize purse of $500 for the male and female winner, went to Mason Hebbard  and Taryn Lester.

Tate Ellis and Stephanie Leech were the outright winners of the enticer distance event.

As a Nissan State Series event, both participation and competition points were awarded, and the current leader board can be found here.

With a record number of competitors, the Townsville Triathlon Festival had something for everyone.
