Triathlon takes over Mooloolaba

Mooloolaba

Triathlon takes over Mooloolaba again this weekend with a festival of events.

Beginning tonight with the 5km run, there is something for everyone this weekend!

Saturday sees the Superkidz and Special Triathlon kick the day off, followed by the Ocean Swim.  The day then leads into the exciting ITU World Cup Women's and Men's race (where we have 8 Queensland elite triathletes taking part).  As the elites do a multi lap bike and run course, there is plenty of opportunity to watch the action and cheer for our Aussies from the Mooloolaba foreshore or cafĂ© strip.

Emma Jackson, Queensland Elite Triathlete who is racing in the ITU World Cup on Saturday, is looking forward to a local race.  Jackson loves the festival feel of Mooloolaba and seeing people involved in more than just the triathlon.  "I love being a part of everything and having fun".

Sunday's Standard distance triathlon is the National Standard Championship, and is the last opportunity, in Queensland, to qualify for the Australian Age Group Team traveling to Rotterdam in The Netherlands later this year.

Two athletes to keep an eye on this weekend are Queenslanders Isobel Chisholm and Brandi Alberts who came first and second at the World Championships in Cozumel last year.  Racing together, the F15-19 category will see some tough competition.

Nick Carling, coach and athlete from Cairns, loves using the Mooloolaba event to "blow the cobwebs out and see where I am at - it's an amazing event with a great atmosphere.  You get to see everyone out on course".  Having been to the Standard Distance World Championships in Cozumel last year, Carling is keen to collect points to keep his options open for World Champs qualification again this year.

Triathlon Queensland will be providing updates on Instagram @triathlonqueensland over the weekend.  Athlete tracking is available on ironman.com or download the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival app for comprehensive coverage.
