Welcome back for 2020! New year event wrap-up

Welcome back for 2020! New year event wrap-up

And just like that, another year is behind us! While 2019 was a great year for us across the sport, 2020 has so much to offer; with the Olympics in Tokyo rapidly approaching, and the qualification process beginning in July for Townsville's 2021 ITU Multisport World Championships, there's never been a better time to get involved. There is still five events to go in our Nissan State Series before we wrap up the season in Moreton Bay and crown the victors, so there's still time to notch up a few more points, or get on the table for the first time, and walk away with top honours!

  • Hell of the West (HOTW) - Welcome to Hell! Known as Queensland's toughest triathlon, HOTW punishes competitors across a 2km swim, 80km cycle, and 20km run in some of the hottest conditions across the country (don't worry, the crocs have already been fed before you hop in the water). While competing in this event is a feat in and of itself, the bragging rights that you'll bring home once you cross the finish line will ultimately be worth it (February 8, 2020).

  • Mt Isa Sprint Triathlon - The last sprint triathlon offering Nissan State Series points this season, the Mt Isa Sprint Tri is sure to be a hotly contested event, with athletes coming from all over Queensland to secure their spot at the top of the podium. A quick 750m swim, 20km cycle, and 5km run separates you from contributing points to your growing tally, so if a distance race isn't your thing, this sprint tri is definitely not one to miss! (February 23, 2020)

  • Tweed Coast Enduro - this newly added aquabike event at Tweed Coast is definitely not for for the faint of heart; however, it is one of the easiest long course multisport events around, with a fast, fun, and friendly course made for first-timers, and those who just want to have a crack. Athletes will battle it out across a 1.9km swim and a 90km cycle, and with double points on offer, there's no reason not to dive into Queensland's only large-scale aquabike event. For those not seeking Nissan State Series points, there is also a Sprint+ event (a Sprint triathlon with a little extra on the cycle course), as well as the classic Tweed Coast Enduro, a classic 70.3 event in the swim/ride/run format (March 7, 2020)

  • Kingscliff Triathlon - As summer well and truly leaves us for another year, we welcome the balmy weather that is synonymous with another Kingscliff Triathlon. The event weekend offers junior, sprint, standard, and teams events, however only the Olympic distance offers Nissan State Series points (Kingscliff is a double points race). This is a great weekend for the whole family to compete at, with an easy channel swim, a relatively flat bike course, and a two-lap run (March 22, 2020)

  • Moreton Bay (Club Championships) - The Moreton Bay Triathlon serves as the final race in our Nissan State Series, as well as the Club Championships event for the 2019/20 season. What better way to wrap up the season than by finishing on top of the leader board, as double points are on offer. With a bay-protected swim, a fast ride over Ted Smout Bridge, and a gorgeous foreshore run to finish up, we've saved the best event of the season for last (April 19, 2020).

There's still time to enter all of the above races and stake your claim as Queensland's premier triathlete, so strap on your aerobars, clip in your cleats, and get going!
