Kurt McDonald lets rip, Kate Bramley backs up her Gold Coast performance and the fight for Mixed Team Relay bragging rights at Race 3.
Close to 100 competitors braved the Ballarat rain and cold to take to the course on Sunday for the first ever regional race of the Victorian Duathlon Series.
In the Sprint, Kurt McDonald (M15-19) put together a great race, with the 19-year old giving the rest of the field a duathlon masterclass, completing the course in 39:33, the fastest time of the day.
Western Suburbs Triathlon Club's Calvin Amos (M20-24) was hot on McDonald's heels, finishing with a time of 40:58. i4's Wes Sulzberger (M30-34) rounded out the fastest three of the day with a time of 41:01.
Fresh off the plane from two stand-out performances at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final, GPC's Kate Bramley (F30-34) backed up her Gold Coast medals to finish as the fastest female of the day in 44:29.
Fellow GPC clubmate, Carly Burmeister (F25-29) wasn't too far off Bramley's pace, finishing in 45:07. While YarraTri's Caitlin Wade (F40-44) put on a great chase to finish in a time of 45:35.
Over in the Dash, it was an all TVDP affair, with Triathlon Victoria Development Program athlete's Luke Gold (Men's Open) and Nichola Muser (Women's Open) top spots in their categories with respective times of 27:14, and 34:14.
Club pride was put on the line in the Mixed Team Relay, with 10 teams battling it out for bragging rights in the Victorian Duathlon Series' first ever mixed team relay event.
In a heated affair, Team GPC (Ron Thomas, Zac Boothroyd, Kate Bramley) proved that teamwork is key, staving off attacks from Team Wade (Caitlin Wade, Niger Gannins, Anthony Woodard) and Team TVDP 1 (Tristan Price, Rebecca Henderson, Toby Linnegan) to claim top spot and bragging rights in a time of 34:44.
