Triathlon Victoria recently developed a new adult participation program for first time triathletes, offering people the chance to get active and participate without the need for expensive equipment. The program is called TriActive and is designed to introduce participants to the sport by demystifying myths and providing people with a fun, inclusively coached environment to glue together the swim, bike, run components of triathlon.
TriActive’s participant-friendly program is coached by Triathlon Australia accredited coaches with the bike component held on spin bikes and the swim in a 25m or 50m pool. The program runs twice a week for five to six weeks and culminates with participants completing their first enticer triathlon race.
TriActive has just concluded two pilot programs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre after a fun and challenging six weeks of exercise. All the participants revelled in a genuine sense of team bonding and personal achievement after successfully crossing the finish line at their first triathlon, either the Gatorade Triathlon Series or Active Tri Series.
First time TriActive participant Steve is looking forward to gradually building up stamina and strength again and getting ready for the Gatorade Triathlon. Following the first session Steve said “for me it was about getting back into sport, I don’t do a lot of sport. I’m pretty excited about been involved in this program so getting out and doing a bit of running, doing the spin, swimming again it is fantastic”.
For Ashleigh, another first time TriActive participant who is doing the program with her work colleagues, it’s all about having a goal, “I haven’t set any new goals for fitness so this is a new one… It’s good to have a support team around which is always helpful”.
Whether you have previously harboured an interest in giving triathlon a go or perhaps more simply you are a low-to-non-exerciser who just wants to get up and get moving a bit more and do something more exciting and challenging than just pounding the pavement or going through the motions at the gym…then TriActive could be for you!
The next TriActive program starts on Tuesday 10 January 2017, coached by Sally Ham from Bayside Triathlon Club with sessions taking place on a Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Goodlife, Sandringham and GESAC respectively.
