Ringwood Triathlon Club is leading the way in encouraging children with a disability to give triathlon a go.
The Ringwood based club is kicking off their first TRYstars program later this month, specifically designed for primary school aged children with a physical disability.
This will be the first time the triathlon club has run a program aimed at children with a physical disability, picking up where the Eastern Health-run program left off in 2016.
Program Coordinator Tim Brewster said the TRYstars program is a great way for the club to give back to the local community.
“I think it’s a way of giving back. I think that’s important...in any sporting club you want to exist beyond just serving your own members… and I think people are really excited to be able to give something back to the sport,” he said.
Tim got involved in the program last year as a volunteer, alongside with fellow Ringwood TC members after hearing about the program through Eastern Health. Through volunteering on race-day, they discovered the rewarding nature of the program and encouraged their club to pick it up.
The program officially runs from January 31st to March 7th, on Wednesdays 5-6pm at Aquanation (Cnr Reilly St and Greenwood Ave), Ringwood.
The program will commence with a trial session on November 22nd, 5-6pm at Aquanation, Ringwood. The introductory session aims to introduce the program and get the participants active and having fun.
