The Park Orchards Primary School community and Jarasport are encouraging all kids to get active this summer and give swim, bike and run a go through their next Weet-bix TRYstars program.
Weet-Bix TRYstars, aimed at 7-12 year olds, is a national junior participation program that focuses on developing fundamental movement skills through activities centred around swim, bike and run.
Program Coach, Simon Knowles, believes the program is a great way to introduce children to the sport of triathlon in a fun environment while developing key motor skills.
“Through the program, the kids get to give the different elements of triathlon a try through games and activities that promote developing motor skills, teamwork and having a go.” he said.
Undoubtedly, the best bit for participants, parents and coaches alike is the mini triathlon at the end of the program. This will take place as part of the Tri Kids race at the 2XU Race 6 in St Kilda on Sunday April 8, 2018.
“Seeing the kids race their mini-triathlon at the end of the program is hands down the best bit. They get to put all of the skills they’ve been practising over the program to use and it’s so rewarding, not just for them, but for their parents and coaches too.”
The program will run at the Croydon Memorial Pool on Thursdays at 4:30pm to 5:30pm beginning on March 8, 2018.
The 60-minute program costs $130 per participant.
