2012 Australian National Long Distance Championships awarded to Falls Creek

2012 Australian National Long Distance Championships awarded to Falls Creek

Triathlon Australia is pleased to announce that the Falls Creek Long Distance race has been awarded the right to host the Australian National Long Distance Triathlon Championships for 2012.

The Championships will be held on Saturday 11 February 2012 on the spectacular Falls Creek course which was first introduced to the national calendar in 2011. The opportunity to become an Australian Elite or Age Group Champion is open to all annual members of Triathlon Australia.

As Falls Creek is the National Championship race, and the key race within the Long Distance Qualifying Series, competitors who are annual members of the association will also earn double points towards their bid for selection in the Australian team for the ITU World Long Distance Triathlon Championships to be held in the town of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain in 2012.

The challenging Falls Creek course will take competitors on a 2km one lap swim in Rock Valley Lake, followed by an undulating, 3 lap 80km cycle and finishing with a 2 lap 20km run using part of the aquaduct  trails and a 200m hill.

Generous prizemoney, high quality award plaques and sponsor prizes will be provided for podium placers at an Awards Ceremony at 5pm, followed by an Event Party for all participants at 8pm.
