Packed full of Australian Championships and World Qualifying Events, 2022 is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Australian triathlon community. As racing has slowly made its return across the country following a rocky 2021, Triathlon Australia is pleased to provide an update on the remaining events on the 2021/2022 National Calendar ahead of the new year. 

2021/2022 AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Triathlon Australia is thrilled to announce the Cross Triathlon Australian Championships have been reallocated to TREX Snowy Mountains which will be held on the 20th of February 2022 in New South Wales. This reallocation has occurred off the back of the cancellation of the Australian Cross Triathlon Australian Championships due to Covid-19 restrictions, which was originally to be held in August 2021 at the Townsville Triathlon and Multisport Festival. 

With six National Championship events now confirmed, the Series action will be kicking off on the 16th of January 2022 with the Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships to take place at the 2XU Triathlon Series St Kilda in Victoria. February will be a huge month with three National Championships set to take place; the Australian Cross Triathlon  Championships at TREX Snowy Mountains, New South Wales and both the Australian Long Course and Aquabike Championships to be hosted at Shimano Big Husky Triathlon in New South Wales. Mooloolaba Triathlon in Queensland will host the Australian Standard Distance Triathlon Championships in March, and the Series will round out with the Australian Duathlon Championships taking place at the Canberra Duathlon in June in the Australian Capital Territory.

2022 WORLD TRIATHLON AGE GROUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 

TRIATHLON 

In 2021 World Triathlon restructured the Age Group Triathlon World Championships to now encompass five individual Age Group World Triathlon Championships events across two separate race venues and countries. 

The 2022 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships in Montreal, Canada (25th -26th June 2022) will host the Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) and the inaugural Age Group Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal), while the 2022 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2nd – 5th November 2022) will host the Standard Distance Triathlon (Non-Draft Legal), Super Sprint Triathlon (Non-Draft Legal) and the Standard Distance Aquabike (Non-Draft Legal).

MULTISPORT

Due to the postponement of the 2022 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships which were to be held in Townsville, Australia, World Triathlon are currently sourcing a suitable alternate venue or venue/s.  

The 2022 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships could either be held at one venue/country including the following 2022 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships events - Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal), Standard Distance Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike and Long Distance Triathlon or over multiple venues / countries with separate individual disciplines.  

For example, in 2021 the 2021 World Triathlon Age Group Duathlon World Championships were held in Aviles, Spain. The 2021 World Triathlon Age Group Long Distance Triathlon World Championships were held in Almere, Netherlands. 

Triathlon Australia will notify all Triathlon Australia members the date/s and location/s of the 2022 World Triathlon Multisport World Championships when World Triathlon confirm these details, through the Triathlon Australia website, social channels and TRI Life Newsletter.
