I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Michael Maroney to the Board of Triathlon Australia.

Dr Maroney, more commonly known within the triathlon community as Mick, has been appointed by the Board to fill a vacancy resulting from a recent resignation. The Board is delighted that Mick has accepted this appointment to assist our existing Directors in shaping the future of our sport in Australia. Mick's appointment is until the 2013 Annual General Meeting.

Mick has also coached some of Australia’s greatest including Greg Welch, Michellie Jones, Chris McCormack and Craig Alexander, as well as a number of age group, Under 23 and ITU Junior competitors.

Mick also gives his valuable time as a member of our Age Group Committee, advising the Board on recommendations to help support our age group athletes preparing for ITU and non-ITU championship events.

Mick’s has an impressive professional background as a teacher and lecturer, holding six University degrees and a doctorate in education. Mick is currently a teacher of PDHPE and Religious Studies at St John Bosco College in Engadine, and a sessional academic at the Australian Catholic University.

Commenting on his appointment, Mick has said “I am excited to be involved at a governance level and I hope to be able to provide a meaningful and positive contribution to the sport at our national Board level.”
