Aussie ‘Young Guns’ team up to take on the world

Aussie ‘Young Guns’ team up to take on the world

Triathlon Australia is excited to announce our ‘young guns’ team that will be among 20 international teams to contest the inaugural British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup in Nottingham on 2 September 2017.

2016 Australian and Oceania Champion Matt Hauser is one of our biggest young talents. He was recently part of Australia’s winning team at the 2017 Mixed Relay World Championship where he clocked our fastest splits in the team. He is joined by training partner at the Gold Coast Performance Centre Jaz Hedgeland who continues her rise in the ranks. Hauser and Hedgeland have both stepped up to WTS racing this season and will lead the team. Joining them on the start line are two of our most promising juniors, Lorcan Redmond and Jessica Claxton, neither have been amongst this type of competition but will embrace the opportunity.

Triathlon Australia CEO Miles Stewart said, “This is a great initiative by British Triathlon, with this format of racing now firmly cemented across our sport with its recent inclusion on the Olympic program for Tokyo 2020, the upcoming World Championship and Commonwealth Games next year.

“They are a young and inexperienced team but this event provides us the chance to test athletes and gain experience against the best in the world ahead of these major games coming up.”
