Australian Junior & Youth Triathlon Series Returns

Australian Junior & Youth Triathlon Series Returns

Triathlon Australia is pleased to announce the 2020/2021 Australian Junior and Youth Triathlon Series (AJYTS).

Forming part of the 2020/2021 Performance Calendar, the AJYTS is set to provide Australia’s next generation of triathlon talent with the opportunity to develop their skills at a number of high-quality events across the country.

Juniors will once again have the opportunity to test their skills at three events for the Australian Junior Triathlon Series (AJTS). While youth athletes will head to two popular Australian events for the Australian Youth Triathlon Series (AYTS).

As is tradition, the Super Sprint Weekend will kick off the Series for both Junior and Youth athletes, hosting Round 1 at Runaway Bay, QLD on December 10-13.

Following the cancellation of the 2020 event due to bushfires, Canberra’s Jackie Fairweather Memorial Triathlon returns to the AJYTS in January 2021. The Capital is set to host both the Australian Junior and Australian Youth Mixed Relay Championships, and will complete the AYTS with the Australian Youth Championships.

The Devonport Triathlon will round out the Series for Junior athletes, with the Australian Junior Championships set to return to Tasmania in February 2021 for the 3rd consecutive year.

The 2021 Junior Oceania Championships remains yet to be confirmed due to current border closure and international travel measures.

Taking into consideration the current COVID-19 restrictions and border closures across the country, Triathlon Australia and its State and Territory Associations (STTAs) have made the decision to remove both the Series Points Score and Bursary from the 2020/2021 Series, in order to firmly place the focus on athlete development and racing opportunities during this challenging period.

Recognising that not all athletes may be able to attend each race in the Series due to COVID-19 restrictions and border closure measures, Triathlon Australia is also working closely with each STTA to ensure that all junior and youth athletes will have access to high quality, local racing opportunities outside of the AJYTS.
