Triathlon Australia, in conjunction with School Sport Australia, is happy to announce that registrations for the inaugural Australian Schools Triathlon Festival have officially opened. 

The Australian Schools Triathlon Festival is new multi-sport initiative presented jointly by School Sport Australia and Triathlon Australia scheduled for 18-21 April 2017 at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith, NSW. 

“The Australian Schools Triathlon Festival is an outstanding opportunity for secondary school students from all over Australia to be part of this exciting new national multi-sport festival aimed specially at students,” Triathlon NSW CE0 Phil Dally said.

In order to cater for all student capabilities and aspirations, Triathlon Australia and School Sport Australia has created a multi-tiered events program. “With the combination of the School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships and the inclusion of participation Triathlon, School Relay and Aquathlon events into the Australian Schools Triathlon Festival it opens up a whole new opportunity for students to participate in this dynamic sport on a variety of levels regardless of their experience or skill level,” Dally said.

 The Australian Schools Triathlon Festival has two categories; the existing School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships and the new Australian Open Schools Triathlon. These two events encompass 5 events in total; 2 for the School Sport Australia Championships and 3 for the Australian Open Schools Triathlon.

For students to compete in the School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships they must be selected into their respective state school sport representative teams. Selection into state school sport teams qualifies the students to race in the prestigious School Sport Australia Triathlon Championship Titles.

The new Australian Open Schools Triathlon however allows any student to register and compete. The three events on offer at the Australian Open Schools Triathlon are as follows:

Australian Open Schools AQUATHLON Championships (Swim/Run) 
Date: 3:00pm, Wednesday 19th of April. 
Cost: $30Australian Open School Triathlon (Non-Drafting) 
Date: 2:00pm, Thursday 20th of April. 
Cost: $95.

Australian Open School Triathlon Relay Championships (Non-Drafting) 
Date: 11:00am, Friday 21st of April. 
Cost: $95. 
Details: 1 swimmer / 1 cyclist / 1 runner per school team.

It is important to note that School Sport and Triathlon Australia welcome and encourage participation in the Australian Open Schools Triathlon events by all students with a disability.  There will be a separate wave start to accommodate these athletes.
