BYRON BAY TRIATHLON CELEBRATES 20TH EDITION ON 9 MAY

BYRON BAY TRIATHLON CELEBRATES 20TH EDITION ON 9 MAY

The Byron Bay Triathlon is returning on 9 May for its 20th anniversary edition.  Traditionally the last race in the Queensland and New South Wales triathlon calendar, the Byron Bay Triathlon is a celebration of the sport with a great party atmosphere.

Steeped in history, the triathlon has a proud record of former champions which includes two-time Olympian Courtney Atkinson, two-time World Triathlon Champion Emma Carney, and two-time Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack.

The Olympic Distance event attracts over 1000 competitors from across South East Asia each year and is regarded by many as one of the friendliest triathlons on the coast. Competitors enjoy a 1.5km ocean swim in the crystal clear, tranquil waters of Byron Bay; a 40km cycle past cane fields, rainforest, and coast; and they top it all off with a 10km run through the streets of Byron Bay, under the famous Byron Bay Lighthouse.

The Teams category is also a perennial favourite.  Attracting triathlon clubs and corporate groups from across the country, Teams compete in either a relay or a total-average-time format.
Also part of the program, the Byron Coastal Aquathon is directed at kids between the ages of 7 and 15. It allows for kids of all abilities to compete and have fun in a run-swim-run format.

“We are pleased to once again organise the Byron Bay Tri,” says Race Director Mike Crawley. “We hope to see both familiar faces as well as new competitors in the upcoming event.”
“We encourage participants to make a weekend of it and enjoy an iconic event in this pristine location.”
