Magnetic Island

Lock in your event entry!
Proudly hosting the Australian Championship for Aquathlon and Sprint Duathlon, all events will be held in Strand Park on the Townsville foreshore in close proximity to the Townsville Airport and CBD. With events catering for elite competitors to first timers and families, the Festival has on offer a range of activities to suit all levels of abilities and interests. Enter here >>

Magnetic Island
Lounge on one of Magnetic Island’s 23 golden beaches and bays, or hike one of the many National Park trails. Spot one of Northern Australia’s largest colony of wild koalas – who live on the Island – along the historical and well-worn paths of the Forts Walk. The 360-views from the summit alone make this 4km trail one of the most popular activities on the island.

Wallaman Falls

Great Barrier Reef

Wallaman Falls
Take in the southern hemisphere’s largest single-drop waterfall, Wallaman Falls. Only 2.5 hours north of Townsville and standing at 268 metres tall, the Falls sit pretty amongst the Heritage-listed rainforest and is a sight to behold all year round.

Great Barrier Reef
Dive deeper and explore the pristine underwater wonderland of the Great Barrier Reef, giving snorkelers and divers access to some of the world’s most spectacular coral and marine life right on our doorstep. Now also home to the Southern hemisphere’s only underwater museum – the Coral Greenhouse – you’ll be inspired by the reef’s greatest stories.

Hinchinbrook Island

SS Yongala

Hinchinbrook Island
If you’ve got an appetite for Jurassic-proportioned natural experiences, then just off the coast of Lucinda is Hinchinbrook Island. Big in every sense – the largest island on the Great Barrier Reef, the largest island National Park, and home of the world-class Thorsborne Trail.

SS Yongala
The SS Yongala is a total bucket-list shipwreck dive experience, located off the coast of the Burdekin. Its historic story alone provides intrigue, iconically referred to as Townsville’s Titanic, but now - 110 years on - has become a complete reef ecosystem home to some of the reef’s biggest marine inhabitants.
