Courtney Atkinson to compete in Xterra Great Ocean Road
The inaugural XTERRA Great Ocean Road is set to attract the big names with Australian Olympic Triathlete, Courtney Atkinson, signing up to compete in Anglesea in April.
Atkinson will be taking on his first off road Triathlon at the XTERRA Great Ocean Road, and is excited about the prospect. On his recent visit to test out the course Atkinson said: “I am really excited about competing in my first XTERRA and off road triathlon event, especially being able to do it in such an amazing location in my own country. After riding and running the course, I can see it is going to be both challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Can’t wait.”
Race Director, Andrew O’Loughlin and his team are over the moon with Atkinson taking on the XTERRA challenge. O’Loughlin said: “Atkinson’s desire to take on the event speaks wonders for the future of off road triathlon in Australia. We’re really excited to have one of Australia’s best triathletes on board. We feel Courtney gives further kudos to the race, and he has recognised the global growth of the off road format. It’s going to be a great event in April!”
EVENT NAME: XTERRA Great Ocean Road
ABOUT THE EVENT: XTERRA will return to Australia in 2013 with the XTERRA Great Ocean Road event in Anglesea, Victoria, on Sunday, April 7. With both triathlon and trail run events, the courses will take participants on the famous Surf Coast Walk and along one of Australia’s most pristine beaches. The event will be a serious proposition for elite athletes, with 15 qualification spots for the 2013 XTERRA World Championship event on Maui, Hawaii, up for grabs, and will also focus heavily on the weekend warrior, who likes to keep fit, take on new challenges and is tired of tedious running tracks.
