Gold, Silver and Bronze to Round Out Team Australia Age Group Schedule In Montreal

Gold, Silver and Bronze to Round Out Team Australia Age Group Schedule In Montreal

A stunning line-up of the world’s best triathletes travelled to the heart of Old Montreal for the World Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships over the weekend, where Age Group, Junior and Mixed Relay World Champions were crowned.

After a two-year hiatus for Age Group athletes due to the impact of the pandemic worldwide, Saturday saw over 1,500 athletes from more than 20 countries compete at the Age Group World Triathlon Sprint Championships, featuring 46 excited Australians.

Three Australian team members were among those celebrated for podium victories, with Campbell Dawson being crowned World Champion in the 60-64 age category, Peter Smith taking out a Silver medal in the 80-84 age category and Lachlan Lewis in the 85-89 age category receiving a Bronze medal.

While on Sunday, Team Australia became part of history with three Australian teams alongside teams from all over the world racing at the first-ever edition of the World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Relay Championships, with teams starting with men out first, tagging their female teammate, then male, and the final woman taking the squad home. The course consisted of a one-lap, 300m swim, followed by a one-lap, 5km bike and wrapping up with a one-lap, 1.6km run, and the athletes loved their first taste of World Championship relay.

The excitement, fun and enthusiasm did not stop for the entire three days of festivities and sensational racing across all levels of the sport.

Congratulations to all members of Team Australia.
