PETER KERR WINS IN LONDON WITH CHARLOTTE MCSHANE SECOND

Australia’s Peter Kerr has scored a confidence boosting victory in the AJ Bell London Triathlon with Olympic hopeful Charlotte McShane taking silver in the women’s Elite race.

Kerr, who was on Welsh triathlete Liam Lloyd’s tail for much of the race, eventually passed Lloyd on the final lap of the run.

He finished with a time of 1hours48mins27secs, followed closely behind by David Bishop.

“It’s my first time here, but I’ve absolutely loved the event! The crowd was spectacular and there were loads of Aussie chants as I went round the course so the whole experience has been great for my confidence,” said the boy from Warnambool.

“I was really happy with how the race went; I was hoping to be in the front pack in the swim and was in second for a long portion, but played cat and mouse with Lloyd and managed to catch back up.”

McShane finished second to Great Britain’s former ITU World Champion Helen Jenkins.

Jenkins, who withdrew from the Rio Test Event, last week, raced her way to victory in an impressive time of 1hour 56mins 32secs, a full minute and seven seconds ahead of McShane (1:57.49) and almost five minutes ahead of 2014 winner Emma Pallant (2:01.23).
