STATEMENT REGARDING CRITICAL INCIDENT AT IRONMAN 70.3 BUSSELTON

During the swim leg of the team’s category in Ironman 70.3 Busselton held on 2 May 2015, a patient was identified as needing assistance in the water.

The individual was attended by qualified surf lifesaving personnel who treated the patient in accordance with their procedures and administered CPR under the direction of St John Ambulance Personnel and the Event Doctor.

The patient was then transferred to the Busselton Hospital for further treatment.

Subsequent to their arrival at hospital we are sad to say that the patient passed away.

Further investigations by the relevant authorities are underway and it would be inappropriate to comment further.

We are all very sad to have had this happen today and offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time and ask that their privacy is respected.
