This weekend the spotlight turns to Western Australia for the third and final round of the Australian Youth and Junior Triathlon Series, incorporating the Youth and Junior Australian Championship along with the Mixed Relay event at the City of Armadale Way Out West Triathlon.

The fast pace and action will be on from the go as the races will be an Enduro format - 350m swim, 12km bike and 2.5km run. The top 15 from the qualification round will progress to the A Final and 16+ will contest the B Final.

The age determination for each category is; Youth B (13-14, Youth A (15-16), Junior (17-19) and Under 23 (20-23). 

The Mixed Relay will then feature on Sunday when teams of four each complete a 250m swim, 6.5km cycle and 1.6km run.

Looking at the points standings after two rounds, Western Australia’s Taylor Kroyer (ITU Youth A Female) has the perfect score (22 points) with two wins from Queensland’s Richelle Hill on 15 points and Jess Pike (Qld) in third on 11 points. Western Australian Daniel Kempson leads the ITU Youth A Male holds a one-point lead over Ethan Streeton (TAS) and Lachlan Medway (Qld) on 14 points. But round three is double points, with the athletes best two scores from the three rounds that count and with an Enduro format anything can happen.

Queenslanders dominate the top of the table clash in the ITU Youth B Male and Female categories as Tamsyn Hill has a two-point lead in a three-way tie for second with Lani Bennett (NSW), Gabby Martin (Qld) and Stephanie Leech (Qld) all locked on 11 points. 

The Medway boys are making their mark this season as Jackson leads the ITU Youth B Male series with two wins from two starts from fellow Queenslanders Jack Crome on 18 points and Thomas Feldmann sitting on 16. 

The Junior men’s race will be hotly contested with all three pointscore leaders on the start list. Western Australia’s Luke Bate will have home crowd support and sits on top of the table by one point from Luke Schofield (NSW) and brother Jayden on 14 points.

In the Junior women Western Australia’s Jessica Claxton has notched up wins in the first two rounds but will skip this race, which leaves the door open for South Australia’s Charlotte Derbyshire (14 points) in second and Romy Wolstencroft (Qld) on 13 points.

A small but talented Under 23 field will be spearheaded by Western Australian pair Liam McCoach and Kirby Diaz.

This all adds up to one fast weekend of racing in the West.
