TRIATHLON PREVIEW: WHATS ON THIS WEEKEND

 

IRONMAN 70.3 Wiesbaden, Germany 10th August

IRONMAN 70.3 European Championship Wiesbaden offers a challenging, yet scenic course in southwest Germany. Athletes and visitors alike can enjoy one of Europe’s oldest ‘spa towns,’ with over 25 hot springs throughout the area. Southwest Germany is also known for world renowned wine and champagne producers.

Lake "Raunheimer Waldsee" is the venue for the 1.2-mile, out-and-back swim. The challenging 56-mile, one-loop bike course will lead the athletes into a series of hilly climbs with steep descents. The13.1-mile, four-loop course takes athletes through downtown Wiesbaden and has a drawn-out descent that lends itself to a spectacular, spectator-filled finish.

There will be 100 Age Group qualifying slots to the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship

Tiszauvaros World Cup, Hungary 9th-10th August

Tiszaujvaros holds a special place in ITU history, as it is now the second longest running World Cup event. In the 17 years it has been on the ITU calendar, the race has grown from a small triathlon into a summer tradition as the whole region turns out for a festive atmosphere. It is a beloved race amongst both spectators and athletes alike.

This Hungarian town will again return an innovative format on the ITU Triathlon World Cup circuit. The athletes will compete in a series of sprint distance semifinals on Saturday to decide who will fight it out in a sprint-distance final on Sunday. On both days the races will be half the Olympic distance – a 750m swim, 20km bike leg and a 5km run. The fastest nine in each heat will advance, in addition to the next three fastest times for a total of 30 athletes in the final.

Tizzy will feature 5 Aussie athletes including Ellie Salthouse, Charlotte McShane, Melinda Vernon Peter Kerr & Kenji Nener. Full start lists below.

Want to know where to catch the action live? The women will kick off the elite action at 3:10pm (11:10pm AEDST) on Saturday, with both the women’s and men’s heats being sent off in 20 minute intervals thereafter. On Sunday, the women will again start the elite races, as they go off at 3:45pm (11:45 AEDST) with the men diving in at 5:10pm (1:10am Monday AEDST.
