Triathlon Australia announce board appointments

Triathlon Australia is pleased to announce the successful candidates re-elected to the Board at their Annual General Meeting held on November 9.

At the first ever virtual AGM for the organisation, Michelle Cooper was re-elected by the State and Territory Presidents to serve for another two-year term and immediately following the AGM, the Triathlon Australia Board reappointed her to the Chair position.

Ms Cooper, the first female President for Triathlon Australia has led with a strong but steady hand over the last two years and has successfully steered the sport through its most challenging period this year.

“The last few years of good governance and a strong commitment to being fiscally responsible has seen us in a position to weather the storm that COVID-19 has thrown at us,” said Ms Cooper.

“I make no apologies for our ambitious agenda over the past year nor the years ahead. It is our responsibility to deliver the best possible structures, programs and support for our members now, and for generations to come.”

“These appointments reflect our continued commitment to good governance and to building a skills-based Board aligned to the needs of the sport.”

“It has been my greatest pleasure to lead triathlon during the past two years and I look forward to what the future holds.”

Also returned to the Board for another two-year term, Stuart Corbishley and Alex Gosman.

Stuart is an experienced sports lawyer and administrator who advises state, national and international governing bodies on a range of legal, commercial, governance and integrity matters. While Alex brings extensive industry experience over the past 30 years, including leadership of several industry associations and executive positions.

Recently appointed to the TA Board, Marlene Elliott was also re-elected to the Commonwealth Games Australia Board on 14 November for a four-year term.  Marlene has intricate knowledge of NFP, sport and community-based organisations and Board experience with a strong focus on strategic objectives, governance and marketing skills.

In a time of great uncertainty within the sporting world and the many challenges our sport has faced this year the re-election of these members brings great stability and stewardship for triathlon.
