Triathlon Australia congratulates John Coates on IOC appointment

Triathlon Australia would like to congratulate Australian Olympic Committee President, John Coates on his election as Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee last Friday.
 
Speaking on the appointment, Triathlon Australia President Michelle Cooper said that she was delighted to hear of Mr Coates’ appointment.
 
“On behalf of Triathlon Australia, the Triathlon Australia Board and the triathlon community, I would like to congratulate Mr Coates on his appointment as IOC Vice-President.”
 
“John has not only been a strong advocate for all sports, but in particular his support of triathlon has been unwavering. His commitment to putting athletes first, promoting the advancement of women in sport at all points including governance, coupled with his professional skills will make him an effective Vice President during this next challenging period”
  
Mr Coates is one of two new Vice-Presidents elected by IOC Members, alongside IOC Member in Singapore Ng Ser Miang.
 
Mr Coates previously served as Vice-President from 2013 to 2017. His four-year term sees him returned to the IOC Executive Board, which consists of the IOC President, four Vice-Presidents and ten other elected members.
