WTS racing steps up a gear with Mixed Relay in Nottingham

WTS racing steps up a gear with Mixed Relay in Nottingham

World ranked number one Australia have announced a new look line up to take on round two of the World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series in Nottingham this weekend. The final chance to race prior to the ITU Mixed Relay World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, on July 7 where Australia will look to regain the title, they won in 2017 after winning silver last year.

A blend of familiar and new faces were named in the squad that will now tackle a duathlon race due to persistent rain and water quality issues in the Trent River.

Natalie Van Coevorden will be the stalwart of the team as part of the 2018 World Championship silver medal team. Emma Jeffcoat featured in the winning squad from WTS Abu Dhabi earlier in the year while Sophie Linn training at the University of Michigan in the US has been named. Linn was 9th at the 2018 Under 23 World Championships and featured on the podium at two American Cup races this year.

Rio Olympian Ryan Fisher brings a wealth of experienced racing but makes his debut in the Mixed Relay along with youngster Lorcan Redmond who continues his rise through the ranks after finishing fifth at the 2018 Junior World Championships. Another new face to the WTS Mixed relay team is Matt Roberts although he was part of the team that earned bronze at the British Triathlon Mixed Relay last year.

The final team and order will be announced two hours before the race star.

The Elite Mixed Team Relay Race will still start as planned at 16.06pm with 14 Teams toeing the start line for a 1.5km run, then into a 7km cycle and ending with a 1.5km run. The start list features 14 teams, all of them vying for ranking points on offer towards Olympic qualification, with Mixed Relay set to make its debut in Tokyo 2020. But due to the fact that the race will now be held as a duathlon, teams will receive only 75% of the points, according to the ITU rules.

Meanwhile on the other side of the globe seven Aussies will line up at the 2019 Nur-Sultan ITU Triathlon World Cup in Astana over the standard distance format.

Matt Hauser continues his pathway to booking an Olympic spot in Tokyo.

“I’m feeling really confident heading in Astana WC and the first leg of my international journey this season leading into the Tokyo Test event.

“It was great to see the speed is certainly there after Chengdu and I’ve returned home since to put some quality mileage away, to tackle my second ever Olympic distance race in Astana.”

Also building into their seasons, Brandon Copeland, Marcel Walkington, Max Neumann, Tamsyn Moana-Veale, Jaz Hedgeland and Joanne Miller

For our Paratriathletes their season continues at Besancon ITU Paratriathlon World Cup in France.

Also, some new faces to our para squad continue to gain international racing experience Molly Wallace (PTS5), Liam Twomey (PTS4) and David Bryant. Sara Tait (PTWC) has been a regular feature of the team lines up with the enormously experienced Gerrard Gosens (PTV1).
