With the focus on the Olympic triathlon events the past few days and samba overload at the closing ceremony, there was still races being run and won! Just 7 weeks out from the biggest dance in our sport at Kona, Miranda Carfrae grabbed her own gold at Ironman 70.3 Timberman overnight. Overhauling a 2min 38sec deficit on the bike to Magali Tisseyre she ran her down in the closing kilometres to take an inspired win.
Cameron Wurf was the best of the Aussie men in fifth and Leon Griffin landed the last spot in the top ten.
Paul Matthews toughed out a fourth place at Ironman Mont-Tremblant this morning in atrocious conditions. At the half way of the run Matthews was in third behind eventual winner Chris Leiferman and Jordan Rapp. Leiferman poured on the pace at the front of the race with 3.31km splits and Jordan 3.43 the pair were left to duke it out.

Paul Ambrose was happy to be racing healthy again and the reward was a fifth place today.
“Happy to be racing healthy again after a tough year on the sidelines, with a top 5 to boot.
“One of the hardest Ironman’s I've done in a long time. Gail force winds and rain all day. Suffer fest. Happy to be in the top 5,” said Ambrose.
Back home after her stunning win at the Ironman European Championships last weekend, Melissa Hauschildt had a hit out at the Sunshine Coast Marathon in the 10km race in a time of 34:52, Radka Vodickova finished third (36.50), both preparing for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship on September 4.
David Dellow took out the win at the Sunshine Coast Half marathon event.
"Happy to have a win at the half marathon yesterday. Perfect stretch of the legs before Ironman 70.3 Bintan."
