Ashleigh Gentle has polished her preparation off for the ITU Triathlon World Championships in Cozumel next weekend with a second place behind newly crowned Ironman 70.3 champion Holly Lawrence (GBR). Gentle was over a minute down after the swim, but matched the pace on the bike with Lawrence, who set her world championship win up with a 5min buffer on the bike last weekend. Gentle out split the Brit on the run to get within seven seconds at the finish.

Josh Amberger finished off the pace in sixth behind the Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee after a big effort at last weekend’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Challenge Vietnam
It was an Australian double at the stunning new venue of Nha Trang, Challenge Vietnam as Mitch Robbins and Jess Flemming out swam, biked and ran everyone else to claim the inaugural titles.

Robbins has bounced back from a 17th place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships last weekend when he admitted wasn’t his best day out but dug deep on a day he wasn’t 100%.
 
He was sore from the effort last weekend but just so happy to get the win in the heat with fellow Aussie Levi Maxwell pushing him all the way.
 
Noosa based Flemming is a tough races and thrives in the heat which proved her weapon today and a 2min 25sec winning margin. Michelle Duffield made onto the podium for third.

Ironman 70. Santa Cruz
Richie Cunningham was in the leading group of six on the run but it was a 2.04.36 bike and 1:13:08 run combination from Michael Weiss that saw him take control on the back end of the run to win by nearly 3mins. Cunningham didn’t have that run speed and finished 6th with Paul Ambrose in 8th. This was a professional race for men only.
