Jeffcoat aims for trifecta in Italia

Eyes will be on Emma Jeffcoat this weekend in the women’s field at the ITU Cagliari World Cup following wins in Mooloolaba and Chengdu – can she make it a trifecta? We’re going with yes!

Jeffcoat joins a strong Australian contingent on the Italian island of Sardinia for the sprint-distance course which once again includes a highly technical bike section, likely to sort many of the places out on the bike leg.

“I’m really excited to be here in Cagliari. It’s a challenging, hilly course and I love that tough racing style!” said Jeffcoat

“Coming off the back of a solid training block with the Britt Team in Loughborough – and after good races in Chengdu and Yokohama, I’m looking forward to seeing what Italy has in store.”

Duathlon World Champion Felicity Sheedy-Ryan also makes her return to the World Cup stage before looking to defend her title in July in Fyn, Denmark.

After a successful domestic season taking out the U23 Australian Triathlon Series, Queenslander Annabel White is propelling herself onto the world stage after also taking part in New Plymouth World Cup in March.

In the men’s division, Commonwealth Games team member, Luke Willian will be part of a four-strong Australian men’s team alongside the New Plymouth winner three months ago, Declan Wilson.

They are joined by Luke Burns and Matthew Roberts to fill out a solid men’s field.

Whilst Willian’s focus is towards WTS Leeds next weekend, he intends to use Cagliari as a good hit out.

“It will be a fast race with Declan and Matt lining up with some other internationals who will no doubt contest for the win,” said Willian.

“I’ve been training in Vitoria Gasteiz after Yokohama which has been amazing. I have always wanted to come to Italy so when I saw it aligned with my preparation for Leeds, I jumped at the chance.”
