Triathlon Australia National Performance Pathway and System Manager

Position Title: National Performance Pathway and System Manager
Reporting to: National Performance Director

Remuneration: Full-time Fixed Term Contract to 30th June 2021
Direct Reports: National Talent Development Coach

Primary Job Purpose
Working with the National Performance Director, to provide leadership and direction across Triathlon Australia’s Pathway, Talent and Scouting Programs ensuring effective system structure and engagement along with management of key stakeholder relationships including the AIS, NIN (National Institute Network) and STTA’s (State and Territory Triathlon Associations). 
 
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1.    In consultation with the National Performance Director, the Performance Pathway and System Manager will develop and implement the organisation’s Performance Pathway strategy. This strategy will align to the TA High Performance Strategy and will include Draft Legal Individual Triathlon, Mixed Relay and Paratriathlon as well as any identified emerging events with a focus on:
(a)      Developing and maintaining a valid and reliable talent identification and confirmation method including an emphasis on scouting and talent transfer that produces appropriate athlete numbers to successfully implement the TA High Performance Strategy
(b)      Develop and maintain a valid and reliable athlete profiling and progression modelling
(c)       Work with the TA Performance Health Manager to ensure the Athlete Availability and Performance Health Program are implemented effectively across performance pathway, talent and scouting programs
(d)      Work with the TA Performance Programs Manager across National Team programs, Individual Athlete Performance Plans, Athlete Categorisation and sub-elite teams as that relates to performance pathway, talent and scouting programs and athletes
(e)      Lead and maintain the development of holistic athlete education programs that are suitable across performance pathway, talent and scouting programs
(f)        Work with the TA Coaching Pathways Manager to develop and implement the overall TA coaching workforce strategy
(g)      Provide support and capability building opportunities to coaches and practitioners that operate across performance pathway, talent and scouting programs
(h)      Lead and facilitate closer links and alignment of underpinning talent programs (state, club and school) in particular to the potential progression into targeted talent development programs
(i)        Track and monitor the athletes’ trajectory against the relevant standard for their developmental stage and progression to world class
(j)        Where appropriate, undertake innovative and special projects to fill critical talent gaps that are identified within the performance pipeline
(k)      Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators that effectively and accurately measures the impact of the performance pathway strategy from underpinning programs through to the Podium

2.    In consultation with the NPD to lead key stakeholder engagement and pathway strategy across the network to leverage resources, expertise and investment, including but not limited to the AIS, NIN, ITU, Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia and STTA’s
3.    Develop detailed budgets that are aligned to the Performance Pathway strategy
4.    Develop operational plans that prioritises the yearly objectives and align to the Pathway Strategy
5.    Work closely with the AIS and other sports to capture and utilise best and/or next practice
6.    Actively promote and align to TA organisational values
7.    Any other request relating to the delivery of Triathlon Australia programs and services as directed by the National Performance Director.
8.    Explore opportunities for continued self-development to maintain contemporary knowledge and skills regarding the strategic leadership of Performance Pathway, Talent and Scouting programs

Experience and Qualifications

Experience
At least 4 years’ relevant experience working in a significant contributory role in an elite professional team environment or NSO

  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development, strategy execution and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven experience in identifying and confirming talent (talent selection and/or talent transfer) within a sports environment
  • Experience in performance modelling and in the use, development and management of performance data to inform decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse the effectiveness of the performance pathway and identify system and technical interventions to increase the progression of athletes within it
  • Experience in and ability to coordinate and execute quality control for multidisciplinary teams (including coaches) and experts to enhance the successful delivery of the athlete pathway
  • Demonstrated collaborative style and political understanding to work positively in partnership with a variety of key stakeholders including the Australian Institute of Sport’s Performance Pathway Team
  • Financial acumen and budgetary management experience including annual planning, forecasting, contingency planning, grant applications and on-going management
  • Strong interpersonal skills including high integrity and the capability to build trusting relationships with coaches, athletes and other team staff.
  • Knowledge of the Australian High Performance sporting landscape would be advantageous

Qualifications
Essential:

  • Undergraduate degree in Sports Management, Administration, Business, Physiology, Coaching or a related field.

  • A willingness to work non-business hours and to travel extensively
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and administration skills
