Triathlon Australia (TA) is today delighted to announce the appointment of Joel Filliol as the TA Podium Centre Head Coach. 

Aligning with TA High Performance strategy, Filliol will be entrusted with leading TA’s pre-eminent training environment with a focus on working with athletes capable of podium performances at major international events. 

Filliol arrives at TA as one of the leading present day triathlon coaches with a decorated career on the elite stage, having in recent years coached athletes to over 90 World Triathlon Series podium performances and 15 World Triathlon Series Overall Podium Performances, as well as World Championships, and Commonwealth and Olympic Games medals.

Speaking on the announcement, Joel Filliol said that he was looking forward to contributing to the TA team and the wider triathlon community in Australia.

"I’ve been working closely with Australian athletes and staff over the last few years, and have been fortunate to support some very strong international performances through these partnerships,” Filliol said.

“When the possibility arose to expand this relationship through the Podium Centre Head Coach role, I knew the quality of the people involved, the vision and ambition of Triathlon Australia, and that this was the right time, and the right opportunity for me to make a long-term contribution to the success of Australian athletes on the world’s stage."

The appointment of Filliol, alongside the creation of the TA Podium Centre, is a key strategic element of the TA High Performance Plan towards Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028. The appointment also marks the first stage of the rollout of a refined coaching strategy. 
 
National Performance Director, Justin Drew said Filliol is a welcome addition to the Australian team. 

“Joel’s addition to the team aligns with our commitment to be the number one performing triathlon nation in the world,” Drew said. 

“His experience and dedication to working towards this vision, as well as contributing to the overall development of our coaching workforce, complements and supports the direction that our High Performance team is already moving in.” 

With the upcoming focus on Tokyo 2020, Filliol will continue to work with a number of Australian athletes in contention for the Olympic team. 

TA will advertise further coaching positions in the coming weeks geared towards ongoing success towards Paris 2024 and beyond
