Following the allocation of two additional open athlete positions, Jack Latham and Hannah Pollock will don the green and gold at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games with an updated triathlon team announced today.
Latham and Pollock join Oscar Wootton and Aspen Anderson, who were announced in June, in the team, with all four set to compete when triathlon makes its debut at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.
All four will compete in the respective men’s and women’s event, coming together to also compete in the Mixed Relay Triathlon as they make their Australian debuts.
Both Latham and Pollock were part of the Oceania Team that were recently crowned the Olympic Esport World Duathlon Champions.
Latham, who lives in the bustling seaside town of Ulverstone in Tasmania, says representing Australia at the Games is a dream come true.
“I was absolutely stunned by the news and did not believe it at first,” said Latham
“I had so many emotions running through my head at the time.
“All my life I have had the goal of representing Australia in some sort of sport, triathlon tops it.
“Coming from a small town in Tasmania not many people make it to international competition… it is a true accomplishment to make it onto the world stage not only representing my country but my town and state too.
“I can’t wait to showcase myself in the mighty green and gold.”
Queensland’s Pollock says she’s ready to race at the international level.
“I was really excited when I found out and I couldn’t believe that I had the opportunity to go and represent Australia,” said Pollock
“It means so much to me that I get to wear the green and gold, it has been my dream since I was younger. I’m stoked the dream is becoming a reality.”
The individual Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Relay Triathlon will make its debut at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, with the events taking place in Buccoo Bay on the southwest tip of Tobago on the 6 and 8 of August.
