Picturesque Canberra Course set for Australian Duathlon Championships

Picturesque Canberra Course set for Australian Duathlon Championships

The fast flat streets and paths of Canberra will see the 2021/2022 Australian Duathlon Championships come together this Saturday 11th June, hosted by Elite Energy.

The Standard Distance Duathlon race is the culmination of the Australian Championships for the 2021/22 season with qualifying points for selection on Team Australia for the Ibiza Multisport World Championships in 2022/2023 also up for grabs.

Racing for the Australian Duathlon Championships kicks off at 9:15am at Rond Terrance with athletes from all-around the country featured on the start list.

Athletes will contest the championship over the 10km run, 40km bike, and 5km run course.

Both run legs take place on the north-side shore of Lake Burley Griffin featuring views of the National Carillon on Queen Elizabeth II Island, The National Library and Parliament House.

The ride sees athletes battle down Parkes Way towards the Australian National Botanic Gardens and Telstra Tower, passing ANZAC Parade on the way.

Elite Energy Events CEO, Mark Emerton, says Canberra’s level course will make for a great day of racing.

“I find it hard to think of a course in Australia that is flatter. On top of it being flat, the road surfaces are in brilliant condition and the event boasts a fantastic event hub overlooking the picturesque Lake Burley Griffin.

“With winter being the off-season for triathletes it is fantastic to pull an event together bringing out our triathlon family, giving them a reason to race and an opportunity to stay fit.

“Fortunately, we are back in the swing of racing and a season of record numbers shows that everyone is very keen to get back to having fun and taking part in our events.”
