STATEMENT: Matt Hauser and Kye Wylde involved in cycling accident

Commonwealth Games Mixed Relay Gold Medallist Matt Hauser and training partner Kye Wylde were involved in a cycling incident on Thursday while training on the Gold Coast.

They were part of a group training ride with other members of their Gold Coast Performance Squad.

Riding in the cycling lane the pair collided at speed with a car door that unexpectedly opened.

They were transported to Gold Coast University Hospital and treated for their injuries.

20-year-old Hauser will undergo keyhole surgery next Tuesday on his dislocated shoulder, and additional surgery to fix a broken finger.

The Junior World champion was set to head overseas next week to embark on his European campaign but will remain in Australia to recover, and out for an undetermined period.

Kye suffered a cracked vertebra which requires rest, his rehabilitation has begun and we’re hopeful of a quick recovery.

On behalf of Triathlon Australia and the entire triathlon community we wish Matt and Kye a speedy recovery.
