Triathlon Australia Welcomes Hall of Famer Emma Bowker (nee Moffatt) to Performance Team

Triathlon Australia Welcomes Hall of Famer Emma Bowker (nee Moffatt) to Performance Team

Triathlon Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Bowker (nee Moffatt) as Olympic Campaign Lead in the Performance team.

Bowker, who is one of Australia’s most successful triathletes, will lead performance management for podium to developing categorised athletes and play a pivotal role in the competition strategy and planning for the Olympic Program.

Bowker brings a wealth of experience to the role, having made Australian Olympic history by becoming the first triathlete, alongside Erin Densham, to compete at three Olympic Games; Beijing 2008, London 2012 & Rio 2016. She won a bronze medal at the Beijing Games and claimed back-to-back World Championship titles in 2009 and 2010.

Speaking on the announcement, Bowker said the opportunity came at a perfect time.

“I’m excited to be able to share my personal insights into triathlon and help our athletes succeed on the world stage,” she said.

“I loved my triathlon career and felt as though I was continually learning and thriving to be the best. Through my career I learnt a great deal about training, racing and life balance which I plan to pass onto the current and future generations of triathletes."

Bowker’s role will be focussed on planning with athletes ahead of Paris 2024, and future trajectory to LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

“I’d love for Australia to be in contention for Olympic medals across the female and male races, and of course the mixed relay,” Bowker said.

“I’d like to see the developing and emerging athletes stepping up to challenging the current top group of triathletes. Creating a competitive environment, whereby challenging each other we can challenge the world’s best.”

General Manager - Performance, Daniel Mangano said Bowker is a valuable addition to the high-performance program.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Emma to our team,” Mangano said.

“Emma’s credentials speak for themselves – she has competed and succeeded at the highest level of our sport. Her experiences as an athlete will complement our engaged coaching workforce and focus the program on what it takes to perform at the highest level.

"Beyond performance management and planning for our athlete cohort, Emma's leadership as a mentor will be valuable in guiding and supporting our athletes to achieve their own ambitions and goals both on and off the course."
